Zakynthos, the third-largest of the Ionian Islands, is renowned for its breathtaking beaches, turquoise waters, and striking rock formations. This Greek island isn’t just ideal for laid-back beach days but also offers numerous attractions and activities waiting to be explored.
Top Attractions on Zakynthos

1. Shipwreck Beach
The most famous beach on the island is Shipwreck Beach (Navagio Beach), celebrated for its iconic shipwreck and dramatic cliffs. When I visited, the viewpoint was closed, and access to the beach itself was restricted. The best way to see it is by taking a boat tour, which provides a stunning view of this legendary spot.
2. Cameo Island
This small island, connected to the mainland by a wooden bridge, offers a picturesque setting for relaxation and great photo opportunities. There’s a small entry fee, but it’s well worth spending a few hours here.

3. Myzithres
Two impressive rock formations rising from the sea create a breathtaking sight. It’s particularly magical at sunset.
4. Caves
Zakynthos is famous for its Blue Caves and marine caves, best explored on a boat tour. The vibrant colors and crystal-clear waters make this an unforgettable experience.

Things to Do on Zakynthos
- Boat Tour to Shipwreck Beach: As mentioned, this is the only way to get up close to the famous beach. Book a tour that also takes you to nearby caves and grottos for a complete experience. Unfortunately, my tour is no longer available, but here you can find similar alternatives.
- Beach Club: For a relaxed day by the sea, head to the Noe Beach Club. This chic spot features a beautiful beach, delicious drinks, and food. While service can be a bit slow, the atmosphere and location more than make up for it. Tip: Reserve in advance if you want a front-row spot by the water.
- Explore the Island by Car: Zakynthos is best explored by rental car. The roads are well-maintained, allowing you to conveniently hop from beach to beach or visit scenic viewpoints. Driving gives you the freedom to discover the island’s beauty at your own pace.

Hotel Recommendation:
Ionian Hill Hotel
I stayed at the Ionian Hill Hotel, and I can’t recommend it enough. Perched on a hill, the resort offers breathtaking views of the sea. The rooms are modern and stylish, and the food at the on-site restaurant is top-notch. The staff is friendly and attentive, making it a perfect place to relax during your stay.
Restaurant Recommendation: Keri Lighthouse
One of my trip highlights was dining at Keri Lighthouse. The restaurant serves delicious Greek cuisine and offers a spectacular view of the sea and coastline. Tip: Make a reservation for the opening time at 1 PM, and arrive 10–15 minutes early to secure one of the best tables. This way, you can fully enjoy the view and ambiance.

Conclusion
Zakynthos is the perfect destination to unwind while experiencing some of Greece’s most stunning natural wonders. With its magnificent beaches, hidden coves, and charming restaurants, the island provides an idyllic setting for a rejuvenating vacation.
